The Met Gala is something I look forward to every year as it signals the gathering together of the worlds top celebrities. And thereby a catwalk parade of some of the best the fashion world has to offer. One never knows what, or who, they will see when it comes to the Met Gala. Some looks will leave us breathless, others will have us questioning the sanity of celebrity stylists, or even questioning our own fashion sense. Do I love it or hate it? So naturally, as any fashionista would, I have always dreamed of attending the Met Gala. I always figured it would be a sign that I made it to be invited or attend the high society and star studded event. But for now, the $30,000 per ticket (raising every year) price tag keeps me observing the event from the nosebleed seats of my couch using my Vogue.com binoculars.
There were some great designers on display this year, some of my favorites being the custom dresses by H&M, the dresses by Zac Posen, Dolce & Gabbana, DVF, Valentino and Thom Browne. Thom Browne would have stolen the show if it had not been for one of my least favorite looks of the evening, his black bubbly plastic bag looking raincoat dress. All the rest were stunning and innovative. I was pleasantly surprised by the custom designs of H&M, and of course Zac Posen and DVF always debut with dresses that suit my ‘classy and elegant’ taste buds’ to a T. Valentino and Dolce & Gabbana follow their lead albeit in a more extravagant manner also well suited to the Met Gala.
*This dress wins most unique interesting and innovative for me this year!*
I rarely observe the celebrities themselves to be honest, because I know they are styled by others and at times are not fully responsible for any styling catastrophes. However there are a couple celebs I do keep my eye on as they are usually pretty consistent in making me ‘Oooo’ ad ‘Ahh’ whenever they grace the red carpet. Not necessarily because I love the celebrity themselves, but because their style is usually just so spot on! One such fashion icon is Miranda Kerr (who I actually do love), and she definitely did not disappoint me, looking radiant in a rose and gold Oscal del la Renta gown. Another is Emma Roberts, who stunned in a luscious red fitted vintage style DVF gown. Kylie Jenner, who tends toward much classier attire than her half sister Kim K, also appeared bodacious as ever in a shimmering, rose gold Versace gown. Last but not least is the lovely Jennifer Lopez, in a classic flowing robin egg blue Valentino masterpiece. I may not always absolutely love what she wears on the red carpet but I am never bored. And my goodness, does the woman ever age?!
