There’s nothing quite like summer; warmer days, everything’s green, and blooming. It’s time to break out that bikini and enjoy the sunshine! Perhaps on a beach in the Caribbean? Or maybe Greece? Because that’s why we really summer isn’t it? The time of year when we all lug that suitcase out from under the bed and take off on adventures! But whatever your destination this summer, here are a few things you don’t want to forget to pack.
White Shoe, Chunky Heel
In Italy they have what I like to call a ‘cheat code for comfort’. Because Italians mostly walk everywhere or are constantly on and off public transportation, wearing high heels 24/7 doesn’t really make much sense. Luckily for them, white tennis shoes look stylish with anything! You would be surprised really how versatile a good pair of white tennies can be. From jeans to cocktail dresses, they are completely acceptable! Fortunately, for those who want something a little dressier from time to time, this latest trend has adapted the comfortable shoe loophole to suit your needs. Say hello to the white heel! Equipped with a bit more style than the white tennis shoe while still remaining a practical shoe, due to its larger ‘chunky’ heel.

When packing for a summer getaway the first thing to go in my suitcase is my swimsuit (even if I may not be going somewhere I plan to swim), followed by sunscreen and a hat. There are many different kinds of hats people tend to pack when going on vacation; from the typical baseball cap to the ridiculously over sized floppy sun bathing hat. I have found the most practical hat to take on vacation is the panama hat because it still has the clean lines of a fedora but, being composed of straw rather than pinstripes, it has a more relaxed feel for vacationing. And once again, it goes with anything!

Big Bold 70’s Shades
Cateye, round rims and big 70’s frames are back and better than ever! And thank goodness, as I prefer full coverage sunglasses anyway! If your on the road or out playing in the sun, you’re going to need a good pair of shades. Typically when I travel I try and only bring one pair that goes with everything, because who wants to keep track of multiple pairs of sunglasses? One sturdy and stylish pair in a neutral shade like beige, black, or my favorite trending color of the year, rose, should do the trick. Here are just a few of the hottest (and most affordable) pairs this season:
Ivy Double Layer Cat Eye Sunglasses $12
CIRCUS BY SAM EDELMAN $38
Yellow Swim Suit!
“It was an itsy bitsy, teenie weenie, yellow polka dot bikini, that she wore!”… Ok well, not necessarily polka dots but that vibrant yellow color we all love is back! It’s taking the Spring Summer 2017 collections by storm and is definitely a hit in swimsuit departments this year. Buttercup, golden yellow, and especially primrose yellow will be the hottest of hottest trend you’ll find on the beach this summer! Good rule of thumb, always pack a swimsuit whenever you travel regardless of where you are going. Better safe than stuck on dry land!

Sundress Day to Night
It is always a good idea to pack at least one nice dress. Especially on vacation, when you will want something easy and effortless to throw on to go exploring! It also saves you from having an ‘Oops!’ moment should you decide to attend church last minute, or find yourself invited to a fancy party, or evening out. Dresses are also a great way to stay cool and comfortable when visiting warmer climates. To suit all of these needs, a lace dress is the way to go! Classy, sweet, and can be worn in either a casual or formal manner. It also receives bonus points for being a more anti-wrinkle material, which is a true lifesaver after being packed in a suitcase!

And but of course, how will you get from place to place during your vacation without a great tote? I always pack one, even if it is one of those that shrinks down to pocket size, though that is rare. Because lets face it! One never has quite enough room in one’s purse while traveling, for that bottle of water or sunscreen, an extra hairbrush, or scarf. A tote is also a much more stylish alternative than a clunky backpack. And there are so many cute totes this year! Here are a few of my top favs!

RELIC RELIC CARAWAY MEDIUM TOTE BAG $18.99

If sundresses aren’t really your style, but you’re still hoping to find that perfect day to night outfit, than a romper is the way to go! I love rompers as they embody yet another fashion loophole, all the comfort of a sundress with the mobility of shorts built in! They are the perfect look for transitioning from the beach to cocktail hour. With the added bonus of doubling a swimsuit cover, should you so desire. There is a romper to fit anyone’s tastes; whether that be classy high necklines, or a plunging back with spaghetti straps. Maybe you’re an off the shoulder girl? Or are you a midriff cut out kinda gal? Whatever your fancy there a a romper to suit your needs, and comfort!
