Hello lovelies! I know it’s been a while, I recently got a new job (hooray extra income!), so things have been a little crazy in the Codename Couture household of late. But I wanted to share with you my fun experience from a couple of weeks ago, when I had the opportunity to attend one of the more exclusive Phoenix fashion events of the year. Hosted each year by Phoenix Fashion Week as kind of the kick off event gearing up towards Fashion Week in October, the Emerging Designer and Model Launch Showcase. This year it was hosted in Scottsdale at the stylish Ellure Lounge. Press and media were allowed in early so I got to meet and speak with a few of the designer’s one on one. What great talent we have this year! All of the designers have completely different aesthetics and styles from one another, which is wonderful because that means we will be seeing something new and signature with each show at fashion week this year.
I’m sure many don’t know exactly how the process works for selecting designers and models for Phoenix Fashion Week as it differs a little bit from the norm. Because PFW likes to focus on upcoming and emerging talent it only makes sense that they would draw from a similar pool of models and designers for fashion week. Though they like to focus heavily on showcasing what Arizona has to offer (most of this years models are from Arizona), they make a point to seek out the best, scouring the world for designers. What makes being selected to show or walk in Phoenix Fashion Week so unique however, is their 3-month mandatory, educational, and extremely sought after Bootcamps for both the models and designers.
For the models, bootcamp is something like competing in America’s Next Top Model. Only 40 contestants male and female make the cut, then the challenges begin. They receive makeovers, participate in photoshoots etc. and at the end of it all the winner is selected and rewarded with a modeling contract. For the designers, the 3-month bootcamps is more about learning how to create, polish and run their brand and business from the ground up. They learn everything from creating a business plan and brand message, to how to reach out to buyers/interested parties, and best utilize social media.
After the show in October, one designer will be chosen as Designer of the Year and receive a designers dream of a $10,000 prize package complete with goods and services they will need to help their brand succeed. Until then, we get a chance to shop these 15 designers collections early, this Friday August 4th at 6pm at the design Moxy Hotel in Tempe! So excited to attend Phoenix Fashion Week’s Annual Shop Garment District Event, an amazing runway show followed by a relaxing evening of complimentary champagne and mingling! Beauty services, such as Tony&Guy’s Braid & Updo Bar will also be available, who knows maybe my wardrobe won’t be the only thing that gets a makeover.
